Battlefield 2142

2142 – you can hardly recognize our planet, because it was quite changed by a huge glacier, which is getting bigger with a great speed, destroying life  on its way, threatening the whole planet. Two major corporations – European Union and Panasian Coalition declare a war to get control of the territory, which has not been destroyed by the glacier, to take off their protective warm suits, smelling sweat and to be able to spend their leisure time on the sun, drinking ice tea, watching favorite serial. It would be too easy for them to enter into negotiations, to discuss everything and live in peace. So, they decide to take a gun and start annihilating all around.

Battlefield 2142 shows us a horrible world of chaos and human aggression. Once flourishing megapolises turned into blood arenas for war - war, which goal is to occupy remaining dry land whatever it costs. You are the key person of this epopee – a simple soldier, who is responsible for people’s lives. They hope and believe that all this madness will end some day. You are their last hope! The game begins with a very beautiful, spectacle introduction. I advise you to watch it till the end and make your sound system louder – satisfaction is guaranteed. I liked it!

There are two game modes – Single player, Multiplayer. So let's talk about multiplayer first?

You can choose one of the fame types – Conquest, Conquest Cooperation and Titan.
The two first are almost identical and they are quite similar to the “Capture the flag”. Let’s talk about the last one. Titan – is a big spaceship. It was used like a mean of transport before the war. Now it’s a powerful weapon and is also responsible for dead soldier regeneration. There’s a protection field around this cruiser of death, which can easily be destroyed together with the Titan by capturing the entire rocket silo. But there’s a little problem – enemies are not going to wait until it happens. The second variant is to reach the heart of the Titan – reactor and explode it, after destroying four control panels. The third variant – you can launch transport bots straight at the Titan from any vehicle, then you have to do the same thing as in the precious variant and run as fast as you can. You may have a question – how am I going to get back, was it one way ticket flight? Don’t worry – you’ve got a parachute, so use it to get back to the land. Of course, you have still got a chance to get killed in the air. By the way, there are a lot of bad guys who can do it with great pleasure. Let’s count. You can choose your character out of four kinds of soldiers: Recon, Assault, Engineer and Support. I guess it’s obvious, what’s the difference between them. During the game you’re going to collect points for every positive action, which brought a satisfaction to your team: enemy unit murder, covering your friends with fire, control point protection and etc. As a reward for that points that you managed to get, wasting your blood and sweat, you will be given military ranks. Cool, isn’t it?  And besides, the weapon in your hands will be getting more and more destructive.

You will have to use transport, because the territories are quite big and it would take too much time if you decided to go on foot.  There are such means of transport: buggies, huge robots, armored  tanks, maneuver star probe vehicles.

Happily, you can load more than one unit into the transport. This fact rises up the chances to get through enemy block. Each vehicle has advantages and disadvantages: some of them moves faster, something has a stronger armor, something is quite more maneuver.

You can try all this magnificence on 10 maps. But in Single Player game only 5 maps are available. I liked Minsk, Belgrade, Fall of Berlin, Suez Canal most of all. I’m not going to tell you about places of interest of this maps, it will be better if you see it all yourself. The only thing I can say about maps is that each of them is unique and interesting to explore. Single player mode maintains up to 16 players and Multiplayer up to 64 players. Remember one rule concerning maps if you don’t want to be punished by death. Do not cross the yellow line along the perimeter of a map, because if you do – you will become dead at once.

Graphic is good, because the game is made on a good engine. Nature conditions splendidly match the atmosphere of the game. You can see evil fog, falling snow and, of course, rain.

To be honest, I expected the sound effects to be better. The only thing I liked was dialogs between team members. When I heard them, I really believed that their messages are addressed to me and I felt like I’m there, with my team members but not on the chair at my house. The sound of car engine changes depending on the road surface. The game maintains such sound standards like Sound Blaster X-Fi, Creative EAX Advanced HD.

I was pleased by the gameplay. Good physical models of characters, techniques and surroundings – thanks to the engine of the game, again. But still, there are some stupid moments. I’ll tell you about one of them. There are red balloons all over the place. They explode when you shot it from any weapon. So, there’s no difference whether you shot from a simple pistol or a rocket launcher.

Each soldier can fasten, but this is limited by Stamina index, which fills in after a character stops. I enjoyed jumping with parachute, though I got killed quite often. Bots work as a real team, they make revolution, cover each other, come for help by orders.

After all, I would like to say that the game is really good, but concerning multiplayer only. For Single player mode the game helps to get bored. Beautiful locations, bad sound effects, perfect physics, bad Single play – everything is balanced.
